About
e5 Bakehouse started in 2010 in a railway arch in Hackney and still bakes there, working with long sourdough fermentations and a clay oven. The arch combines a working bakery with a cafe serving coffee, cakes and pastries, and the business sells bread wholesale as well as over the counter. It also runs a bakery school, with courses that range from a first attempt at sourdough through to pastry work, and the business is explicit about sourcing: it buys from named farmers and gives ecological impact as a reason for how it chooses grain and ingredients. Beyond the original arch it now operates further sites in east London.
